Man awaiting sentence after pinning partner against wall
Burnley Magistrates’ Court was told how William Rayson (32) insulted Amy Monaghan and swore at her before he pinned her against a wall.
Rayson, who then grabbed the victim’s arm and then twisted it, had never been violent towards her before and she told police she did not want a restraining order.

He was bailed until Monday, December 21st, for a pre-sentence report, on condition he does not go within 100 yards of Oak Street, Colne.

Prosecutor Adrian Hollamby told the hearing the victim had been at home with Rayson and her sister and boyfriend had come round for a few drinks and to watch television.

“He said ‘Who are you talking to?’. After her sister and her sister’s boyfriend left, he carried on making unpleasant comments, saying ‘Look at the state of you. I don’t know why I’m with you’.”
Mr Hollamby said the defendant became more aggressive, was twice asked to leave, refused and pushed her into a wall.
He added: “He pinned her against the wall for about 20 seconds and grabbed her right arm and twisted it.”

Hide AdMr Glen Smith (defending Rayson) said he accepted his behaviour was completely inappropriate.
Mr Smith said: “It is a long relationship. The defendant believes the relationship has not come to an end because it isn’t characterised by this behaviour.
“She has told the police it has never happened before.”
