Concert will be in memory of former grocer and church warden
Miriam Jenkinson ran a mixed grocery shop in Hargher Street, Burnley for many years and she involved herself in many aspects of community life including being instrumental in forning the Coal Clough Lane Community Association and the Coal Clough Dinner and Dance Club.
Originally from Rossendale, Miriam’s father served a term as Mayor and, as a young woman, she assisted him with his mayoral duties.

Hide AdA former clerical officer for the local authority, Miriam later became a matron at a care home in Wigan where she cared for 40 residents and 15 day care patients.
She left the post to care for her mother in Burnley.
Miriam became a member of the Parkside Methodist Church in the town, joining the Tuesday fellowship group and later becoming door steward.
Miriam spent the last few years of her life living at Bank Hall Care Home in Colne Road where she endeared herself to staff and residents with her sense of humour and positive outlook on life.
Her family, including Bill, her husband of 37 years, children John, Kathleen and Derek and step daughters Pauline and Gail, are organising a concert and buffet at the home in Miriam’s memory and everyone is invited.
Miriam’s funeral was held yesterday and she also leaves her sisters Bella, Alice, Beatrice and Clare.
